A 62-year-old man committed suicide after he attempted to kill his wife, daughter-in-law and grandson. The incident occurred at Dorjipara in Nadia’s Krishnanagar on Saturday night.

All the three persons including the child are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Krishnanagar. Police said that the body of Bipul Kanti Das (62) was recovered hanging from the ceiling while the others were lying in a pool of blood inside a locked house. The local residents rushed them to the hospital with serious injuries on various parts of their bodies.

It was learnt that Bipul’s son returned late at night when he found that the door was locked from inside. Despite of knocking on the door for several times, nobody opened the door. This had aroused the suspicion of the son and he called the local people who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. They found that the elderly man was hanging from the ceiling in one room while in the other, the elderly woman, her daughter-in-law and grandson were lying injured and writhing in pain. They were immediately taken to a Shaktinagar district hospital for treatment.

Police said that Bipul was a retired state government employee. He used to live in the house with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and a grandson. The relationship between the elderly person and the others soon deteriorated and they often engaged in quarrel on various issues. Police said that he was suffering from mental depression for quite some time. Police have started a detailed probe. They are looking into all possible angles. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the elderly person might have hit the other family members of the house with a sharp weapon and later killed himself. They are trying to find out the motive behind the crime.
