Two groups of truck drivers sparred with each other in Malda’s Sahelapur late Monday night, leading to a pedestrian receiving severe injury. Police said, Nakul Mondal, a local resident, was passing through a road in Sahelapur, when shrapnel of a bomb hit him in the back. The man was
severely injured as blood oozed out from his back. He was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital where doctors performed a surgery in his back. Police said that two long-time rival groups of truck drivers were fighting each other in the middle of the group and started hurling bombs to each other. Mondal, a local shop keeper was crossing the road when the shrapnel struck him.

“The groups of Tarun Ghosh and Lakshman Ghosh were fighting over the domination of a certain area. We have already arrested three persons in connection with the case. The other accused will also be arrested soon,” said a police officer. Sources in the police further informed that the trucks in question are mainly engaged in transportation of goods. The trucks mostly travel across the border to go to Bangladesh. The transport business is very lucrative alongside the India-Bangladesh border.
Many touts and anti-social elements are nowadays operating in the area and are trying to gain
control of the area. Police have regularly conducted raids to prevent such incidents.
