Man pushes wife to death from balcony after scuffle

In a fit of a rage, a 50-year-old man allegedly pushed his wife off from the balcony of their second floor house in the Khichripur area of East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Saturday night. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Lalita (45). After pushing off Lalita, Dilip, her husband, fled from the spot and has been absconding since, said sources.

The incident took place at around 8 pm at the Chaudhary Inder Singh Market in the Khichripur area on Saturday when Dilip, the accused, who used to live away from his wife came home. Sources said that the couple used to quarrel a lot due to which Dilip went out of the house . He allegedly returned to his Khichripur house on Saturday night after five months. During this time, Lalita was with her 11-year-old grandson while her daughter and her husband had gone out for some work.

Sources said that as per the statement of the couple’s 11-year-old grandson, who was present at the house during the entire incident, Lalita got angry when Dilip came back home. This allegedly led to a heated argument between the couple which escalated into a scuffle and in the heat of the moment, Dilip allegedly pushed off Lalita from the second floor balcony. After this, Dilip fled from the spot. Police said that two locals who witnessed the episode rushed Lalita to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where she was admitted in the ICU. However, on Sunday, Lalita succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Police said that they had registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC on August 20. After Lalita died, they converted Section 307 to Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
