Man posing as police officer arrested from Park Street

A middle-aged man was on Thursday arrested from Park Street on charges of taking money from different people by posing as a senior police officer of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch. 

Police said the accused Debraj Mukherjee used to travel in an SUV and blue beacon light was fitted in the car. Preliminary investigation revealed that the car didn’t belong to the accused. 

On Thursday morning, he went to a hotel at Park Street after parking the car outside. The person, to whom actually the car belongs, spotted the vehicle and waited for the person to come out of the hotel. 

The person, who is the actual owner of the car, was astonished to find the accused travelling in it. He caught the accused when he came out of the hotel. The owner of the car was astonished seeing the person using the car. 

An altercation broke out between the two when the car owner asked him that how he got hold of the vehicle. 

The accused claimed that he is a deputy superintendent of police of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch and threatened him of taking necessary action if he continue misbehaving with him. 

Local people gathered at the spot and the owner of the car informed the police. Policemen from park Street police station went to the spot. The accused told the police that he is a DSP. He also claimed himself to be an IPS officer. 

Suspicion raised when he failed to give an valid identity card to the police,. Police took him to the police station and contacted the Delhi Police to get details about the person. The Delhi Police confirmed that there is no such person working with them. A fake identity card was also recovered from him. 

It is learnt that he used to take money from people after blackmailing them by posing as a police officer of a Crime Branch.
