Man kills wife, surrenders himself to police in N-24 Pgns

In a rerun of an incident of honour killing, a 40-year-old man stabbed his wife to death on the mere suspicion that she had an extra-marital affair and surrendered himself to the police. The incident took place late night on Thursday at Ballavpara in North 24-Parganas.

Police said the accused Joydeb Mondal came to the Ashoknagar police station with blood stains on his face, hand and clothes. He approached the duty officer saying that he had killed his wife Anjali (32).

Initially, the duty officer was shocked hearing that the person had killed his wife and came to surrender himself. He informed the senior police officers, who asked Gautam about his address. But he was not in a mental state to tell his address and kept staring at the policemen.

After asking for around 15 minutes he told his address to the police. Police went to the spot taking the accused along with them.

The police found the woman’s body on the floor of their bedroom with her face smashed with something heavy. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had first stabbed his wife repeatedly with a knife. Later he smashed her head with a heavy iron rod.

Police suspect that he had given spiked food to his wife and killed her when she fell unconscious.

A police officer said that he had chalked out the plan to kill his wife at least two to three days ago and sent his 13-year-old son to his grandparent’s house.

Police came to know after speaking to the local people that there used to be trouble between the couple.

Their relatives also told the police that the accused used to suspect the woman of having an extramarital affair. Joydeb was later shown arrested.
