Man kills sister, police suspect sexual assault attempt

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her elder brother in northwest Delhi’s Outram Lane area in the wee hours of Sunday. The police suspect it to be a case of attempted sexual assault.

According to the police, the accused, who has been arrested, gained entry to his sister’s room in an inebriated condition around 1 am and thrust open the door with his leg.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijay Singh said the man killed the woman by pushing a rolling pin (belan) into her mouth and pressing her neck with his foot.

The police suspect that the man had gone to his sister’s room with an intention to sexually assault her, but when she resisted, he lost his cool and killed her in a fit of rage.

According to the police, the deceased used to lice with her brother after she separated from her husband two years ago. Even the man had a strained relationship with his wife, who was staying with her brother, the officer said.

The accused was known for his temper. According to the woman’s 10-year-old son, he had brutally beaten up his mother on earlier occasions also, police said.

The deceased was staying with her brother in the same house but had moved to a room on the first floor with her son on Saturday. This had apparently enraged the man who went out for drinking with his brother-in-law and later came returned to his sister's room.

After killing his sister, he brought her son to his room and slept beside his sister as he was regretting his act, police said.

In the morning a PCR call was made by one of the neighbours and the accused was arrested from his house.

"A case of murder has been registered and we are probing the motive behind the murder," Singh said.
