Man kills self at Rabindra Sarovar Metro station

Metro services were disrupted after a man committed suicide at Rabindra Sarovar station on Wednesday evening. Police said they are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased, who jumped in front of a metro train on the Up line when it was arriving at Rabindra Sarovar around 5.10 pm.

Commuters who saw the incident told police that the victim – aged between 25 and 27 –threw himself on the track when the train entered the station. Metro officials said that the man died on the spot after being was run over by the train and that were forced to switch off power on the Up line. 

Railway Protection Force personnel and Metro railway officials rushed to the spot immediately and it took around an hour to remove the body which was stuck under the train.

Metro services between Rabindra Sarovar and Rabindra Sadan were halted. Truncated service was, however, available between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Kavi Subhas on one side and between Maidan and Dum Dum stations on the other. Services resumed around 6.10 pm.
