Man kills mother’s ‘lover’

A 23-year-old man allegedly beat to death another youth as he suspected him of having an affair with his mother, police said on Sunday. Ankit Sharma was arrested from Paschim Vihar in west Delhi on Saturday for allegedly beating to death Ashish Dixit with a stick on 8 May, in an underconstruction building in Uttam Nagar.

V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said ‘Sharma suspected that he had developed illicit relations with his mother, as his father remained ill for a long period. Dixit did not stop visiting his house despite several warnings to him. On 8 May, when he saw Dixit coming out of his house, he took him to a nearby under construction house and kept hitting him with a wooden stick till he died,’ he said.

Dixit, who used to sell readymade garments in weekly markets, and his mother who died recently became friends with Sharma’s family sometime ago. After his mother’s death, Dixit shifted to Rohini but frequently visited the Sharmas.

Sharma used to work as a storekeeper at a mobile shop in Paschim Vihar, which was closed about 10 days ago. ‘At present, Sharma is jobless. He is married but his wife left him,’ Renganathan said.
