Man kills mother for property

A 30-year -old mentally-challenged man has been detained by Delhi police for allegedly killing his mother in south-east Delhi. The reason behind the brutal murder is reported to be property dispute.

The incident took place in Kalkaji area near Desh Bandhu college, where the two were residing on the second floor of C block for the last eight years.

On late Tuesday evening, the accused, identified as Sameer Chadha, had a heated argument with his widowed mother Reeta Chadha, 50, over distribution of property among three siblings, including him.

At 9.30 pm, a call was received by Delhi police , wherein Sameer said that  he had killed his mother. A senior police official said, ‘We rushed to the spot immediately and detained Sameer after finding the body in the bedroom. Reeta was immediately rushed to the nearby AIIMS hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.’

According to police,  after Reeta’s husband died, she decided to distribute the property among her three children. But Sameer was unhappy, as he believed that his elder brother, a resident of Kaushambi area, got a bigger share than him.

‘On Tuesday, Sameer discussed the unequal property distribution with his mother and when she disagreed with him, he went to the kitchen, brought a heavy object and hit her’, an official said.

He added that the accused seemed to be mentally disturbed and police has decided to conduct a medical test in this respect. Reeta’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the reports are awaited. A case under appropriate sections has been registered at Kalkaji police station.
