Man kills in-laws in fit of rage; injures kids, wife, brother-in-law

In a fit of rage, a 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his parents-in-laws and injured his wife, minor daughter and his brother-in-law at South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Friday evening.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Chintu. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Roshan and Trilok Chand.

Police said that Chintu also sustained severe injuries as he was held and thrashed by neighbours. He is currently recuperating at the AIIMS hospital where his condition is stated to be critical yet out of danger.

The incident took place at around 7.45 pm at the Jatav Basti in Chirag Dilli where Renu, Chintu’s wife, had come to stay at her maternal home.

A police investigator said that since Chintu allegedly had strained relations with his wife Renu, she had left him and started living along with her two children at her parents’ place in Malviya Nagar. Moreover, she had even filed for divorce.

A senior police official of the South district said that Chintu, who came to visit Renu, took her to the terrace and then attacked her with a large tent nail. However, his mother-in-law, Roshan intervened due to which he hit her on her head.

This had led to a commotion and Chintu’s two children and father-in-law, Trilok Chand and Ashwin, Renu’s brother, too went upstairs.

“Chintu was so furious that when he attacked his wife, Renu, his two children, 7-year-old daughter Neha and five-year-old son Laddoo started crying. Enraged over hearing her daughter’s wailing, Chintu allegedly flung Neha off from the terrace of the house,” said a senior police official.

Neighbours and locals, meanwhile, heard the commotion and rushed to Renu’s house. Seeing Roshan, Trilok Chand, Ashwin, Renu lying in a pool of blood, they made a PCR call after which a team of local police rushed all of them to AIIMS where Roshan was declared brought dead while Trilok Chand succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police added that Neha, Renu and Ashwin, are currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS where their conditions are stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, relatives of Renu alleged that she was being harassed by Chintu, who works as a driver in a private firm and his family over dowry and was upset by their constant demands. Due to which, she had left him and was staying at her parents’ place.

Chintu was a native of Palwal in Haryana.

Sources said that in light of the constant tension, both families of Renu and Chintu had arrived at an arrangement that she would stay at her parents’ house but Chintu didn’t accept this arrangement.

Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Malviya Nagar police station. They are waiting for Chintu to regain consciousness to know what transpired and accordingly will take action.
