Man killed for protesting against gambling in Metiabruz

A man was brutally killed after he had tried to restrain some youth from gambling on side of a road. Sheikh Najrul Islam was beaten to death at Lichubagan area of Metiabruz on Friday night.

Police said Najrul used to run a tuition in that area and was always against any such criminal activities in the area. On Friday night, he was passing by a lane while some youth were gambling there. He protested the act and told them that they should not spend money in such a way.

The infuriated youth pounced on him and started beating him up. One youth suddenly took an iron rod and hit him from behind. “He fell down on the ground. Some locals rushed him to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries,” said a police officer.

Police are in search of three prime accused of this case. “Ahmed, Dahiyan and Alam, who were local anti-socials, were involved in this case. The eyewitnesses said Ahmed hit him with the rod,” the
officer added.

Police conducted several raids to nab the accused. The houses of the anti-socials were also raided. Meanwhile, an infuriated mob torched three bikes while two cars were also ransacked.

“We have detained a person in connection with the case. He has been interrogated. Soon the main accused will be arrested,” the officer said.
