Man held guilty of sexually assaulting 4-year-old girl

A local court has held a man guilty of sexually assaulting a four-year-old child, relying on testimonies of the victim and her mother.

Additional Sessions Judge Vikas Dhull convicted Raju Ansari for the offence under section 10 (aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “Having regard to the testimony of the victim and her mother, it is proved beyond reasonable doubt that Ansari had committed aggravated sexual assault on the four-year-old girl. Accordingly, accused is convicted for the offence under POCSO Act,” the court said.

The court, which is yet to pronounce the quantum of sentence of the convict, also relied on the medical report of the victim while holding him guilty.

According to the prosecution, on February 4, 2013, Ansari, a welder from Bihar, had come for renovation work at a school on the first floor of the victim’s residential building in Uttam Nagar. When she went to close the main door on her mother’s instruction, Ansari caught hold of the girl and sexually assaulted her, the complaint lodged by the girl’s mother said.

When the girl raised an alarm, people gathered and handed him over to the police.

During the trial, Ansari denied the allegation levelled against him and contended that he was falsely implicated in the case by his contractor, with whom he had some payment issues. The court, however, rejected his contention, noting that the contractor was not examined in the case to support his claim.
