Man handed over to police for rape attempt

A 26-year-old man was thrashed by the public and later handed over to the police after he attempted to rape a 19-year-old woman at a parking area in PVR Saket, South Delhi on Saturday night. 

The accused had been identified as Sajid, a resident of Sikandarabad. He lived in a rented <g data-gr-id="35">accomodation</g> in Delhi. 

According to the woman, the accused befriended her and called her at PVR Saket to have a conversation about her job. When the victim reached the venue, he parked the car in the PVR complex and offered her a soft drink that was allegedly laced with <g data-gr-id="34">sedative</g>.

According to police, when the woman gained her consciousness after few minutes, she noticed that the accused was touching her inappropriately. 

When she protested, Sajid molested her. When the woman raised <g data-gr-id="28">alarm</g>, a large number of people rushed <g data-gr-id="27">lto</g> the spot and started thrashing the accused. 

“The accused is being interrogated and further investigation is underway,” police said.

In her statement, the victim  said since few days she was in touch with Sajid who promised her job. 

“On <g data-gr-id="29">pretext</g> of providing a job, the accused called the woman and molested her,” a police officer said quoting her.

A case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the Sajid.
