Man hacks his father to death, commits suicide

A man hacked his father before committing suicide at Khardah in North 24 Parganas on Friday. The police recovered his body lying in a pool of blood as he cut the vein of his hand. The father-son duo was taken to a private hospital. They were declared dead on arrival.

Police said, Biplab Banerjee, a 38-year-old person hacked his father, Ashok Banerjee to death on Friday morning over some financial dispute. Later, he also committed suicide after cutting his own vein.

“The Banerjees are old residents of the area. They have their own house at Khardah, just beside Nilgunge Road. On Friday morning, the locals have called up police after they heard screaming emanating from Banerjee’s house,” said a police officer.

The police team reached the spot and saw that Banerjee’s body was on the floor while his son was also writhing with pain.

“They were taken to the nearby hospital. We sent the deceased’s body to the autopsy,” said the officer.

After initiating the probe, police learnt that the Biplab Banerjee’s father was a mentally disturbed person and used to quarrel with his son in petty matters.

On Friday morning, Banerjee took a knife from the kitchen to kill his father. Then he cut the vein of his hand.

“The neighbours have alleged that Banerjee’s father fought with his son over his failure to earn money.” the officer added.

Banerjee’s case is quite similar to a case which happened in Basirhat last month. Rehana Biwi, a 65-year-old Basirhat resident was killed by her son after a confrontation. The accused son escaped from the spot.

Local police said that domestic violence might be the reason to this murder. Rehana, the mother of 20 year old son was involved in an altercation with him. Later police arrested the accused son.
