Man found hanging from tree, police suspect family feud

Bholanath Das, a 35-year-old person was found hanging from a tree on Monday night in North 24 Parganas’ Titagarh. The man, an auto driver by profession had a tiff with his brothers and elder sisters a few days ago over the possession of family property. Police arrested his two brothers and two sisters.

The locals informed the police that Das’s body was seen hanging from a tree in front of a local Kali temple in Titagarh’s Ganeshpur. Later, Das’s wife Mousumi, lodged a complaint with the Titagarh police station alleging that her in-laws had killed her husband. The murder was the fallout of property dispute, as the victim’s wife had said to the police.

“We have started an investigation. Those accused will be grilled. We are now collecting evidence of the murder,” he said. The victim’s wife had informed the police that the brother and sisters of Das once called him up for the discussion. They asked him to sign in some papers of property. But her husband refused to do that. That made them angry and unhappy.

“They killed my husband and hanged him on the tree, so that the neighbours would think that it was a case of suicide,” Mousumi said.

The police team has reached the house of Das to investigate. They took property papers which were restored in the Das’s Almirah for examination. They reached to raid the houses of victim’s brothers and sisters.

They collected papers from there as well. Later, the investigators called up the neighbours to interrogate. They asked the neighbours about the relationship of the Das with his brothers.

“The murder is something suspicious. We need to find out how the man was killed. And how he was hanged in the tree,” said a police officer. The body was sent for post-mortem.
