Man falls in lift shaft from 12th floor, dies on the spot

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man died after falling into a vacant space while entering the lift at the 12th floor of a building in Central Delhi’s Rajendra Place area on Wednesday morning. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Trilok Joshi.

The freak accident took place at around 11 am at the Pragati Towers building. Joshi was a field agent in a Law firm. He was about to enter the 12th floor lift when his leg got imbalanced and he fell into the vacant space, said police.

According to the senior police officers, Joshi worked on the 13th floor of the buiding. Preliminary investigation suggest that he was walking downstairs when he noticed the elevator door open on the 12th floor of the building.

In a bid to enter the lift, his leg landed in a gap and he fell. Eyewitnesses told police that on hearing a loud sound, people present in the Pragati Towers rushed Joshi to a nearby hospital. He was declared dead on admission.

“We have registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against unknown persons at the Prasad Nagar police station. Investigation has been initiated,” said Parmaditya, DCP(Central). One of the people working in the building alleged that it is not the first time that the lift was dysfunctional. On earlier occasions, minor incidents have been reported. 

Sources said that the offices in the building reportedly had around 2,000 workers and around 500 visitors frequented it everyday. A native of Uttarakhand, Joshi is survived by his wife and children.
