Man dies after part of building collapses

A 50-year-old man died after a part of a building, which was being razed, allegedly fell on the man, who was passing by at the GB Road area of Central Delhi’s Kamla Market area on Wednesday evening. 

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Aftari.

Police said that the incident took place at around 7 pm when part of an old building which was being razed due to illegal construction fell on a passer-by. The deceased was passing through the lane when part of the balcony of the building fell on him.

This allegedly led to a commotion in the area and locals present at the spot informed the police after which a team of police rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, fire tenders from the Delhi Fire Services also rushed in to the spot.

Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) said: “We have registered a case under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code at the Kamla Market police station. Probe is on.”

Sources, meanwhile, said that the building which was allegedly being razed was not a brothel. Police, meanwhile, said that they are trying to ascertain the identity of the building owner. Further investigation is underway.
