Man decamps with ornaments worth `4 lakh

A miscreant looted a flat in the second floor of a four-storied building in Lake Town on early Thursday morning and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 4 lakh.

Police have started an investigation but no one has been arrested so far. The miscreant climbed the rainwater pipe and landed on the second-floor balcony. He opened the door which was locked from the inside  and entered the flat of 82-year-old Chinurani Saha where at knife point he forced
her to give him the keys of the almirah.

He took out the ornaments and decamped. Saha was  alone in the flat when the incident took place as her son and his family was away on a business trip.

She raised an alarm which attracted the neighbours and they came to her rescue and informed the police.

Police apprehend that the criminal was known to the family and was waiting for a suitable opportunity to raid the house as no one was there in the flat except for the 82-year-old woman, he took the opportunity and looted her home. The incident created a panic in the area.

It may be recalled that a few days ago some miscreants had robbed a flat in Salt Lake and decamped with the money and other valuables from the two women where the criminals had used a toy gun to scare them.

However, the gang was arrested and the money and valuables were recovered from them. The police have asked the residents not to panic and to inform them if they find anyone loitering in the area aimlessly.
