Man commits suicide in Belgachia

An employee of a power generation and distribution company on Wednesday committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of multi-storey building in Belgachia where he visited on Wednesday morning to meet a person.

The incident triggered tension in the locality. Locals said that the victim, Joy Mukherjee (32) came to the building in the morning and told the security guards of the Uma Apartment that he wanted to meet a person staying at the apartment. Later, he went to the sixth floor of the building by an 
elevator. The security guard of the building told the police that the victim was absolutely normal when he talked to him. While in the elevator, the victim received a call and talked to the person on the other end quite normally. Nobody had suspected that the youth would commit suicide by jumping from the roof of the building.

The local residents heard a loud thud and found that Mukherjee was lying in a pool of blood. The local people rushed him to the hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. After being informed the police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. The local residents told the police that after stepping into the building the victim was roaming aimlessly till he came to know where the elevator was situated. After a security guard informed about the whereabouts of the elevator, the victim entered into it. But he looked absolutely normal.

The investigating officers talked to victim’s wife. Police said that Mukherjee was a resident of Lake Town area. Police are investigating why the victim had chosen an apartment in Belgachia to commit suicide. They are also investigating with whom the victim had gone to meet.

Police are interrogating the victim’s family members in this connection. Preliminary investigation suggested that Mukherjee had been suffering from mental depression.
