Man attempts rape on minor girl

An incident of attempt to rape led to tension in Malbazar area in Jalpaiguri late Saturday night.

Police said that a potato trader Jhuton Das had taken a 14-year-old girl inside a godown stacked with bags containing potatoes.

He took her inside the godown saying that he will give her some potatoes to take home.

She tied the girl’s hands and gagged her as soon as she entered the godown.

But the helpless girl somehow managed to cry out for help.

Hearing her cries local people rushed inside the godown and found her lying with hands tied and mouth gagged.

The accused was also standing inside the godown.

He had somehow managed to pose as if he also went inside the godown with other people.

The girl later revealed the truth. But by that time the accused managed to flee.

The girl was admitted to Jalpaiguri Sub-divisional Hospital.

Police, however, couldn’t speak to her properly to take her statement as she was in a traumatised state.

Police have started an investigation based on the complaint lodged by the young girl’s father. Police personnel have initiated a search for the accused.
