Man ‘accidentally’ falls on Rajiv Chowk station’s track, dies

A 34-year-old man died after he accidentally fell on the Metro tracks at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station on Thursday morning. According to the police, the man identified as Amit Talwar was standing on platform 2 and was waiting for the Jahangirpuri-bound train and while trying to peep into the tunnel, he got imbalanced and accidentally fell on the tracks.

In light of this incident, Metro services were shortly disrupted on the Yellow Line. Senior police officers said that after the incident, commuters informed the police after which Talwar was rushed to Lady Hardinge Medical College where he was declared brought dead.

Police officials said that the incident took place at around 9.10 am on platform number 2 of the Rajiv Chowk Metro station where Talwar was waiting for the train. “He was looking inside the tunnel when he accidentally fell on the Metro tracks and was hit by the speeding train towards Jahangirpuri,” said a senior police officer.

Refuting to call it a suicide, the senior police officer added that as per the preliminary investigation, the incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras.

“As per the CCTV footage seen by the SHO, it appears that Talwar accidentally fell down and was hit by the train,” said Jitender Mani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro). The officer added that the victim was going to Haridwar at 3 pm as per the railway ticket found in his pocket. Police said that they have initiated legal action in the matter. Sources said that Amit Talwar was a resident of Saket area in South Delhi.
