Mamata’s unique skywalk project will start soon

Construction work of the unique Skywalk project at Dakshineshwar temple, a dream project of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, will start soon if things go as per plan.

The project will immensely benefit the devotees and thousands of tourists who visit the temple. It will also ease traffic congestion near the temple.

The state government on Thursday started the rehabilitation of stall owners. A total of 137 stalls have been constructed to rehabilitate them. According to the High Court order, the stall owners will have to shift to Janani Sarada Road. Accordingly, the state government had started constructing the infrastructure. On the other hand, BJP and CPI(M) leaders started backing some traders. The leaders alleged that the project would badly affect the business interest of the traders. The construction work also remained stalled for few months. Gopal Saha, chairman of Kamarhati municipality, said that the businessmen had cooperated with the district administration and the construction of skywalk project will start soon.

The Dakshineshwar temple complex has been given a new look following the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata  Banerjee. A new parking area also came up outside the main entrance. The old water body has been restored where a pay and use toilet was constructed.

Arrangements have also been made for parking of buses coming from neighbouring states.  Over lakhs of pilgrims from the neighbouring states like Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh come to this temple. There was a time when the stall owners used to bully the pilgrims. Now the things have changed. Devotees can visit the temple and offer pujas without any hassle. The skywalk will be the new attraction for pilgrims.
