Mamata spreads message of brotherhood and unity

More than 40,000 people offered prayer at Red Road on Thursday morning.She said: “I wish a happy and prosperous Eid to all peace loving people. The morning of Eid brings the day of happiness for all. I would like to wish happy Eid to the people all across the world.”

She maintained: “Bengal will show the way to peace. I pray for good health and prosperity of everyone.”Giving the message of brotherhood and unity, Banerjee said: “We all will stay together and spread the message of peace.”

Abhishek Banerjee, MP from Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, was also present in the 

programme along with the state civil defence minister Javed Khan, MP from Uluberia Lok Sabha 

constituency Sultan Ahmed and Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

Abhishek Banerjee wished happy and prosperous Eid to everyone.The Chief Minister added: “Abhishek comes with me to attend the programme every year. This is the tradition of our family that one has to be with everyone from the very young age.”

Eid was celebrated across the state with people offering their prayers on Thursday morning and exchanging greetings with each other. Hundreds of people went to Nakhoda Masjid and offered their prayers.

People were found visiting the houses of their relatives and friends to exchange sweets.Various programmes were organised at different places on the eve of Eid. Foods and clothes were distributed 

at many places. 

The sky remained overcast since the morning and the humidity level was also high. But, it in no way it had restricted the people from setting out of their homes clad in new clothes.However, rainfall played spoilsport at some places in the state in the afternoon. Rain for around an hour in pockets of 

some districts including Howrah and Hooghly left many people stranded at one place at the time when everyone had to reach their destination.

Security arrangement in the city and other parts of the state was also tightened up to avoid any untoward incident on the day of Eid. Policemen were on duty at different parts since last night as people had started visiting those places since morning.There was elaborate security arrangement at Red Road as well.
