Mamata lambasts Opposition, accuses them of inciting violence

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday accused the CPI(M) and other Opposition parties of inciting violence and urged her party workers not to fall into their trap and maintain their cool.

Hinting towards the Election Commission, Mamata Banerjee on Friday asked her partymen not to be scared and work for the upcoming Assembly polls with the support of public.

Boosting the morale of her party workers, she said, “I am not dead. I will always fight. Trinamool Congress means to hold the head high. We feel good, if the people are well.”

She was addressing a rally at Sabuj Sangha maidan on Friday afternoon.

The Trinamool Congress supremo said CPI(M) was trying its old tactics of inciting violence and was spreading canard against Trinamool Congress.

She said it would be wrong to think that Trinamool’s base was “soft” as it was really very “strong” and any attempt to attack the party would be dealt with seriously.

She urged the workers not to fall into the trap of the Opposition parties who might try to spread volleys of canards and advised them to work with people and ensure that they cast their votes in favour of Trinamool.

Referring to the Opposition she said, “They will come for three days but local party workers will stay in the area and so they have to work for the upliftment of the people.”

She added that Trinamool Congress did not support political vendetta and the Opposition parties that had been inciting violence would have to ask their workers to maintain peace.

“We had worked hard to restore peace in the area and this will have to be maintained at any cost.”

Jangalmahal which was the most disturbed area between 2008-13 and which had witnessed killing of Central Force personnel to political workers has seen tremendous development in the past four and a half years.

The roads have been improved, a bridge has been constructed and school, colleges have been set up. The people are getting Rs 2 per kg rice under Khadya sathi project. Banerjee said people would visit Jangalmahal instead of going to other parts of the country including foreign land because of the scenic beauty of the area.

She said a series of projects had been taken to uplift the economic standard of people. The Maoists who had surrendered have been brought to the mainstream of life.

Banerjee iterated that the unethical alliance would not affect any poll prospect of Trinamool Congress and people would never forgive the “unholy alliance” which was against development.

Banerjee on Friday addressed a meeting at Salboni where she urged her party workers to bury all differences and work for people and ensure that they get all the benefits of various projects meant for their development.

Thousands of people were present in both the meetings. She also lead a padayatra at Midnapore.
