Mamata in Delhi durbar today

Mamata in Delhi durbar today
Determined to spread wings beyond West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has already planned her strategy to make her party’s presence national and this includes opening up units in all 70 assembly seats of Delhi and seat-sharing arrangement with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). She is also planning to hold a rally in Ahmedabad on 20 March.

While the TMC is hoping for a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal, the party is trying hard to make a dent nationally in association with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare. The party has already opened units in 55 of the seventy assembly segments in Delhi with the assistance of Anna’s supporters.

On Tuesday evening, Banerjee reached Delhi along with party general secretary Mukul Roy and singer Nachiketa. She will address a rally at Ramlila Maidan on Wednesday. Sources said she might announce the list of Lok Sabha candidates, including her plans for seven seats in Delhi, during
her speech.

Meanwhile, expelled Aam Aadmi Party leader Vinod Kumar Binny reached TMC office and held a meeting with Mamata and Roy. It was speculated that he may contest from the East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. However, he refused to comment on the issue.

Rajasthani singers in traditional attire also reached the party office. It was like a mass gathering where leaders and Mamata supporters from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan came, hoping for tickets to contest elections.

It is expected that lakhs of people will join Mamata’s rally on Wednesday where Nachiketa will sing ‘Delhi Dekhegi Didi ka Dum’ (Delhi will be witness to the strength of Didi).  Sadhna Raj, decedent of King Maharana Pratap, also reached the Trinamool party office hoping to get the TMC ticket from South Delhi.

‘I came to Delhi to meet Mamata and urged her to give me ticket from South Delhi,’ she said. Apart from Sadhna Raj, leaders from Rajasthan and Bihar also reached the office hoping to get TMC tickets.

Earlier on her Facebook page, Mamata said, ‘I will be in Delhi. At 1 pm at Ramlila Maidan, where Annaji will be addressing the gathering.’
