Mamata gives away Sharod Samman awards

Dubai Bong Connection and Hong Kong Bengali Association along with Bangladesh Society for Puja and Culture in Sydney got Biswa Banga Sharod Samman 2016 for organising the best Durga puja overseas.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave away the prizes. This year, Durga pujas organised in foreign countries were included in the list of awardees.

Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja Committee, Ahiritola Durotsav Sarbojonin Samity, Bosepukur Sitalatala Durga Puja Committee, Abasar Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee and Bhowanipore 75 Palli Sarbojanin Durgotsav got the sherar shera award.

Sribhumi Sporting Club bagged the award for best performance on Red Road Immersion carnival along with Chelta Agrani. Kumartuli Sarbojanin Durga Puja got the award for best ambience along with Pallisree, Peyarabagan Sarbojanin and 22 Palli Sarbojanin. Suruchi Sangha got the award for best tableau which was displayed at the immersion carnival. Tridhara Sammilani, Ajeya Samhati, Barisha Club and Dum Dum Tarun Sangha also got award for their tableaux. Naktala Udayan Sangha got the award in the best pandal category. Dum Dum Tarundal also got the prize in the same category. 

Rajdanga Nabauday Sangha along with Dakshin Kolkata Sarbojanin Durgatsav, Ballygunge Cultural Association, Falguni Sangha and Netaji Colony Lowland got prizes in the best concept group. For best lighting, Ekdallia Evergreen got the prize. Kalighat Milan Sangha, Babubagan and Jodhpur Park got prizes for putting up the best lighting show. Tallah Park got prize from the Kolkata Police for best children friendly puja.

Altogether 173 community puja committees coming from the district got prizes under three categories- best puja, best pandal and best idol.

Noted vocalist Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, Dwijen Mukhopadhyay and actress Madhabi Mukhopadhyay were on the dais. Ministers Sovan Chatterjee, Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and Aroop Biswas were present on the dais. Surajit Kar Purakayastha, Director General of Police and Rajeev Kumar, Commissioner of police were also present in the function. Jit Ganguly sang a song penned by Mamata Banerjee.
