Mamata Banerjee to set out for North Bengal tour today

The administrative review meeting of the three districts will be held at Islampur in North Dinajpur on Tuesday.

Banerjee will leave the city on Monday evening for Bagdogra from where she will go to Sukana and the next day she would head towards the venue of the administrative review meeting.

After the meeting, she would be returning to Siliguri from Islampur. Chief Minister will return to the city on August 24. Security has been beefed up in Islampur for the administrative review meeting.

The August 24 meeting is a crucial one as she will take stock of three districts at a time.

Like all other administrative review meetings, Banerjee will be discussing on the present status of progress of different projects and at the same time the projects those will be taken up for an overall development of the districts will also be discussed.

This is the first time after forming the government for the second term, Banerjee will be reviewing the progress of development work of Malda, from where her party had not bagged even a single seat in the Assembly election. In the first term of the Trinamool Congress government, equal stress was taken to bring development in the areas from where the party had not got many votes. According to a senior state government official, Banerjee will be taking equal steps for development of Malda and her clear message to the officials of the district is to implement all projects in a better way.

Chief Minister had lambasted the Centre for its attempts for unnecessary intervention in the state government’s functioning and had been protesting against the reduction of fund in different projects. Thus, she might direct the officials to utilise whatever money they are getting for development projects without wasting any time as she had already directed the same to officials from other districts where she already held the administrative review meetings.

She would also take a stock of the ongoing projects in North and South Dinajpur. There are some local issues on which the Chief Minister would give her direction during the meeting on Tuesday and would also ask to take necessary steps to solve the problem as early as possible.

Banerjee will be inaugurating several projects and lay stone of some after the administrative review meeting on Tuesday. An elaborate security arrangement has been made to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the area in the next two days.

Officers of the Bomb Disposal Squad conducted frisking operation at the venue. The dog squad had also working since Saturday.
