Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Sreebhumi’s Puja

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Sreebhumi Sporting Club’s Durgotsav for this year on Wednesday. She could not unveil the idol as pitripaksha is still on.

“I could not unveil the idol as pitripakkha is still going on. It will come to an end on September 30, when people will offer tarpans to their ancestors – marking the end of pitripaksha and the beginning of Devipaksha,” the Chief Minister said.

Sreebhumi Sporting Club’s Durgotsav – one of the most popular Pujas in the city, has been headed by Trinamool Congress MLA of Bidhannagar, Sujit Bose.

The organisers were ready with their arrangements for the inauguration ceremony where many dignitaries including state power minister Sovandeb Chatterjee attended along with the Chief Minister.

“I have been coming here to inaugurate your Puja for years. It was scheduled on Thursday. But I have to attend administrative meeting in Hooghly tomorrow (Thursday), so I would not be able to find time for this. So I have come in your place today (Wednesday),” the Chief Minister said addressing the local residents.

“I promised Sujit that I will come here. I am happy that I have made it. I’ll wish you happiness and prosperity. I’ll pray to the almighty for the peace of entire world,” she said.

“This is Jagannath’s Temple. He is lord of world. He’ll bring peace,” she concluded indicating Sreebhumi’s pandal.
