Mall suicide: One-page note recovered from dustbin

A day after a 21-year-old women allegedly committed suicide at West Delhi’s City Square Mall, a suicide note has been recovered from a dustbin located on the third floor of the mall from where she jumped to her death. 

The one-page note had hinted at a rift between the victim, Shubhangi and her parents over the formers’ choice of her boyfriend. The life partner in question was also present with her during the time of the incident. 

Shubangi, the daughter of a sanitation worker in Delhi’s civic department was pursuing her graduation through distance education.  

In her letter she had castigated her parents for not understanding her and has also admitted her mistakes that she had committed in the past. She then goes on to tell her parents that they should have forgiven her.

The note was recovered in the evening when the CCTV footage was looked into and it was found that Shubhangi had dropped the note into the dustbin.

Confirming the note, Deputy Commissioner of  Police (West), Vijay Kumar, said: “When we were going through the CCTV footage, it was found that the girl had dropped a page into the dustbin. The note has been addressed to her parents. She has told them that her boyfriend is not at fault and all of this was her fault.”

The CCTV footage of the mall has shown that the woman, along with her male companion entered the mall at around 1 pm. She later sat in the lawn in front of the mall. 

The footage further shows that the duo talk for several hours after which, the girl tells her friend that she wants to use the bathroom. After waiting for more than 15 minutes, the man grew restless and the later enters the mall to find her blood soaked body.
