Major plan: Noida authority to construct 25 km signal-free road within two years

The authority, in order to ease congestion at major traffic junctions, is all set to construct three flyovers and seven <g data-gr-id="34">under-passes</g> on five major roads of the city. The move will help lakhs of commuters plying daily from Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi towards Ghaziabad and NH-24 to reach their destinations.

Notably, the city and its surrounding areas witnesses long jam most of the time due to cengesation and even long pile-ups of vehicles could be seen during peak hours.

According to the plan, roads that would be made signal-free include Master Plan-II road from GIP Mall to Shoprix Mall, Road-8 of Sector-71 and Sector-62, Dadri-Surajpur to Chalera (DSC) road, Barola Sector-49 and Noida Stadium Sector-12/22 road to Master Plan-I road of Rajnigandha to Sector-12/22.

In order to make the 4-km long stretch from Sector-71 to Sector-62 signal-free, the authority has proposed four underpasses that will cover the intersections of Sector-62(Model Town), <g data-gr-id="30">Mamura</g> Chowk, Sector-61 and Sector-71.

A senior official said the construction work on Sector-62 (Model Town) underpass is already in progress and 35 per cent construction work has been completed. While work on another underpass of Sector-61 intersection is all set to start in the coming weeks.

“We have started the construction of the Model Town underpass a few months ago and the work is going on in full swing. Now, site mobilisation and traffic diversion work has been started for Sector-61 underpass to start its digging work,” said a senior authority official, adding that the detailed estimate of <g data-gr-id="31">Mamura</g> Chock underpass has been sent to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi for further approval.

The design of <g data-gr-id="38">Sector-71</g> intersection, where a Metro junction is proposed for Greater Noida and Sector-62 Metro link, has been changed.

The authority has scrapped its proposed 1-km elevated flyover between Sector-51 to <g data-gr-id="33">Sector-72,</g> and has instead proposed a roundabout in its place. The decision has been taken due to the alignment of Sector-62 Metro extension link. “We have decided to put off the proposed elevated flyover between Sector-52 to Sector-72,” the official said.

Apart from this, commuters plying from Greater Noida and Film City for Ghaziabad would also get an easy access by <g data-gr-id="43">plying</g> over a flyover as the construction work of the 5.5 km flyover between Great India Place and Shoprix Mall that connects to the Sector-61 underpass on Master Plan-II Marg is already on high gear. Another 4-km stretch between Barola, Sector-49 to Sector-12/22 would be signal-free soon.
