Mainstreaming terror: ‘JuD’s Lahore meet to promote unity’

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed claimed his group’s two-day Lahore convention that commenced on Thursday would “defuse political tension and promote tolerance and unity” in Pakistan.

“The convention will give a message of solidarity and unity to our enemies trying to destabilize Pakistan through terrorism and sectarianism,” he told a TV channel.

He claimed India has been portraying JuD a terrorist organization for its stance on Kashmir. “The Indian propaganda and criticism cannot stop us from highlighting its atrocities in Kashmir.”  Saeed and other top JuD functionaries are expected to address the convention on Friday.

The group’s supporters have gathered in Lahore from across the country for the event for which millions have been spent. JuD has paid 50 lakh Pakistani rupees for special trains to ferry supporters from Karachi and Hyderabad (Sind) to Lahore. Transportation arrangements have been made for bringing supporters from other parts of Pakistan as well.
