Maid stealing cash caught on CCTV, 1 lady cop injured while trying to arrest her

A day after the employers of a 35-year-old maid caught her on CCTV camera stealing some cash from their almirah at their Vasant Kunj house in South Delhi on Thursday, Delhi Police arrested the woman. However, the cops met with resistance from a group of servants in the area when they went to arrest her.

The group allegedly pelted stones at the team of police in which a lady constable received minor injuries. According to a senior police officer of the South district, on August 16, Satish Sehrawat found that expensive items and cash were missing from his almirah. Suspecting the maid to be behind the theft, he installed CCTV cameras inside his house. To check if the woman servant is actually stealing, he kept an amount of Rs 1 lakh.

“On 17th August, the woman came inside Sehrawat’s room, opened the almirah and took Rs 500 from it. The entire sequence was recorded in the CCTV camera. Based on the CCTV grab, Sehrawat informed us,” said Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

“We sent team to the B-block to arrest the woman servant. However, to defend her, a large group of servants gathered and tried to stop us from arresting her. They started pelting stones at the team during which one of the lady constable, Manisha was injured. The team somehow managed to control the situation and the servant was arrested,” said the officer.

Police said that case under appropriate sections of the IPC has been registered at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station against the accused. Further investigation is underway.
