Maid assault case: Three including owner arrested

After the horrific case of an assault and forced confinement of a 24-year-old domestic help came to light, the police have arrested three persons in this case. The owner of the house where she was employed has been arrested too.

He has been identified as Atul Lohiya. The placement agency owner, Ganesh and his colleague, Saraswati were also arrested on the charges of not giving her salary.

The case was reported last Saturday, when the DCW chief, Swati Maliwal had learnt of the incident on Friday and reported about the case. The victim had come to Delhi in search of work and had contacted the placement agency in Shahdra.

She was referred by Ganesh to Atul Lohiya and later started working at Lohiya’s residence in the month of June. She had alleged in her complaint that Lohiya initially started mistreating her and used to abuse her. When she protested, he would viciously beat her up. Her ordeal became more torturous when she was beaten with iron rods.

She was later shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital by the placement agency.

“We had detained the owner when the incident was reported, He was interrogated and we found that he was complicit in the crime. He had forcefully detained her and had assaulted her on previous occasions. We are also looking into the nature of injuries which may have been inflicted in the past,” said a senior police official, privy to the investigation.

The placement agency owner Ganesh and his colleague Saraswati were also arrested for allegedly not giving the maid her salary.

However, Ganesh had refuted the charges by saying that he used to pay the money to Lohiya and that it was his responsibility to pay her maid.
