Mahindras to spend Rs 4,000 cr more for Chakan expansion

A Joint Declaration in this regard was signed on Thursday by Maharashtra Principal Secretary (Industries) Apurva Chandra, and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd Executive Director Dr Pawan Goenka in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Industry Minister Narayan Rane, MoS for Industry Sachin Ahir and  Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra. 

Mahindra said that the Maharashtra Government’s visionary industrial policies and efficient governance practices has prompted the company to decide on scaling scale up its world class Chakan plant, while making Maharashtra a key partner in its growth over the coming years.

Thanking the Maharashtra Government for its continuous and unstinted support, Goenka said that with this expansion, Mahindras will continue to play an integral part in the development of the Chakan region and Maharashtra state, as well as the Indian auto industry in times to come.

A total of Rs 4,000 crore will be utilized towards infrastructure development, product development and capacity expansion for vehicles to be rolled out from the Chakan plant. The Government of Maharashtra has conferred the status of ‘Ultra Mega Project’ to this proposed expansion. In addition there will be further investment by suppliers to cater to the company’s increased requirements.
