Maha cop beating: Court to hear legislators’ bail plea on Monday

A court here on Friday adjourned, to Monday, the bail plea of two Maharashtra legislators, who were arrested for beating up a policeman three days ago.

The legislators – Kshitij Thakur and Ram Kadam – on Thursday morning surrendered before the Crime Branch of the Mumbai police. They were later presented in a magistrate’s court, which remanded them in police custody for a day. According to a Crime Branch official, the court will hear the bail plea of both legislators Monday and decide on the course of action. They might either be given bail or sent to 14-day judicial custody, the official said. Thakur and Kadam are among the five MLAs suspended from the legislature till the end of this year.
