Madhur gets Prez award

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has added yet another accolade in his kitty. On Wednesday, the director was awarded the Presidential Award, Gangasharan Singh Award, by President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Bhandarkar has earlier received National Awards.

This is Bhandarkar’s fourth presidential award. He had earlier won the award in 2002 and 2005 for Chandni Bar and Page 3, respectively. In 2006 he was awarded for Traffic Signal.

The award comprised a certificate and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.

‘Over the years, not just the audience or the industry but also the government of our country has supported and acknowledged my work. I am honoured and thankful to the HRD ministry for finding me befitting for this award,’ said Madhur.

The award was also given to 28 other people from different walks of life for their contribution under the Hindi Service Awards Scheme. Amongst them were are filmmakers Girish Karnad, Shyam Benegal and media person Pankaj Pachauri.

The Ganga Sharan Singh Award is a literary honour that the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan (Central Hindi Organisation) annually confers on writers of outstanding works in Hindi literature. It is also given to those who play an important role in promoting the Hindi language through their area of expertise.

Bhandarkar is currently busy shooting his upcoming project Heroine which has Kareena Kapoor in the lead along with Arjun rampal. He recently shot an item number Halkat Jawaani with Bebo.

Kareena is at her boldest best in the song.
