Though Madan Gopal Mitra is in correctional home, the sincerity of Trinamool Congress workers towards their leader was once again proved at Kamarhati on Monday afternoon. Mitra, who is in correctional home in connection with the Saradha Group scam, is pitted against Manash Mukherjee of CPI(M) in Kamarhati Assembly constituency.
Since the date of election was announced and Mitra was nominated from this seat, his workers had swung into action leaving no stone unturned to ensure that their beloved leader comes out victorious.
His presence was felt in every nook and corner of the area on the day of the poll on Monday as almost every alternate person was found talking about the steps taken by him for the development of the area after he was elected as the MLA from the constituency.
Like all other days since the election was declared, the TMC workers in Kamarhati had been visiting door-to-door to request people to cast their votes in favour of Mitra. Even on the last day of the campaign the workers and leaders had given their best to retain the seat in the favour of TMC.
Depending on the development work that had been carried out in the area and the mass popularity of Mitra, the TMC workers were found confident of his win.
Like all other places, election in Kamarhati, too, passed off peacefully on Monday. There had been no allegations of any outsiders creating trouble or workers of any political party gathering at one place to threaten the voters. The target of TMC workers was to ensure that each and every electorate goes to their respective polling stations to cast their own votes.
“Madan Mitra is so popular here that we always feel his presence, though he had been absent for more than one year. People know well that he is innocent and he is the person who can bring further development here. Even his competitors in this election will agree that he had major contribution for the development of the area,” said a TMC worker adding that people here are worried about his ill health.
Mitra had complaint of ill health in correctional home on Sunday and a team of doctors from SSKM Hospital went to the Alipore Central Correctional Home for his check up.
