Former Transport Minister Madan Mitra will contest from Kamarhati Assembly constituency, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy said in a meeting on Saturday.
Roy was addressing a meeting organised by the party workers at Belghoria on Saturday afternoon. It may be recalled that TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee had announced this in Siliguri two days ago.
Roy urged party workers to work together and intensely to ensure Mitra’s victory with bigger margin in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
Mitra was arrested in connection with Saradha scam in December 2014.
His popularity in the area has not reduced at all and Trinamool workers present at the meeting welcomed Roy’s announcement.
Trinamool leaders are meeting party workers at every area urging them to reach people and make them aware of the steps taken by the state government to develop the area.
It may be recalled that while addressing the party workers from Birbhum recently, the party chief
had asked them to work for the area and not to lobby for tickets which would be looked after by the central leadership.
