Madan Mitra hospitalised post severe back pain complaint

Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra was on Sunday taken to a private hospital after he complained of severe back pain, family sources said.

A family member said Mitra was suffering from cold and throat infection as well as back pain since last week.

“The back pain aggravated since this morning and doctors prescribed hospitalisation for which we shifted him to a private hospital on the bypass,” Mitra’s kin said.

Doctors have provided him with requisite medication and were conducting necessary medical tests, he added.

The TMC leader was granted bail by a special court in September, after 21 months of his arrest for his alleged involvement in the Saradha Scam.

He was arrested on December 12, 2014 and granted bail by a lower court last year.

Mitra had surrendered before the court after his bail was cancelled by the Calcutta High Court on November 20 last year.

Incidentally, Mitra was briefly admitted to a state-run hospital after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness.

He was taken back to Alipore Central Jail this June after being discharged.

Investigation into the ponzi scam, which came to light in 2013, revealed that the Saradha Group had allegedly cheated investors of Rs 1,200 crore in mainly rural areas, as per an official estimate.
The CBI had taken over the investigation in June, 2014 following an order of the Supreme Court.
