Madan claims innocence, thanks CM for making him electoral candidate

Claiming that he was not part of any wrong doing, Madan Mitra, the former State Transport minister and Trinamool Congress candidate from Kamarhati Assembly constituency, on Wednesday urged the voters from the area to vote in his favour.

Mitra, who was arrested for his alleged involvement with the multi-crore Saradha Group scam, was produced before the Alipore Court on Wednesday.

While coming out of the court he told the media, “I am thankful to the supremo of my party, Mamata Banerjee for honouring me and to help me come out of the social stigma by making me a candidate from Kamarhati constituency once again. I am in custody for the past 15 months despite of not being involved in any unethical work.”

Claiming his innocence he said, “I am innocent and I have proclaimed my stand at different programmes in Kamarhati. I was not involved in any unethical work and today again I would like to maintain my stand. I assure you that neither have I done nor will I do any such work for which my voters have to bow their heads in shame.”

Stating that the people’s court is the highest court, Mitra said, “I would like to request the people from Kamarhati Assembly constituency to keep faith in me. I will never let them down.”

He further said that he is happy to know that his supporters have started campaigning for him at different areas in Kamarhari Assembly constituency.

In almost all the hearings, his counsel had pleaded the court to grant him bail highlighting various reasons and CBI had always opposed the bail plea. But on Sunday the scenario in the court room was quite different as Mitra’s counsel didn’t plea for his bail.

His judicial custody has been extended till March 22. It may be recalled that Mitra had hinted his willingness to contest in the forthcoming Assembly elections when he was produced before the court before the candidates list of the party was announced.
