Lucknow airport’s new terminal to open today

Airport Authority of India (AAI) chairman VP Aggarwal on Friday said the integrated terminal of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport, which will be inaugurated on Saturday by civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, will be open for public in first week of June.

'Lucknow will have an integrated airport for both domestic and international arrivals,' he said while adding that since the international flights mostly operate in the night and domestic operate in the day, the integrated airport was the better utilisation of resources.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of the inauguration of the new terminal Agarwal here said AAI had undertaken the development of 2 metro airports and 58 non-metro airports spread across the country, mostly capital cities and other cities which had tourist potential.

Talking about the importance of Lucknow airport, the AAI Chairman said it had always been Delhi's alternate airport. 'All flights which are diverted from Delhi come to Lucknow hence the development of this airport was necessary,' he said. Agarwal said that in the coming future AAI were looking for spaces in the state wherein airlines could operate small planes for better connectivity for the tourists. He added that in spite of the economic slowdown in the country, the AAI had spent about Rs 241 crores as capital expenditure in the last five years at this airport which had been achieved through the efforts put in by the team of AAI employees.
