Lt Governor calls meet to discuss women safety

A month  after the brutal gang rape of a paramedical student on 16 December, Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna called the fourth meeting of Security Commission at Rajniwas on Thursday.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Leader of Opposition, V K Malhotra,  founder of NGO, SEWA Renana Jhabvala, Deputy Editor of Hindu, Praveen Swami, and  Commissioner of Police Neeraj Kumar were present in the meeting.

Khanna said directions have been given to all police personnel to respect women and register their complaints verbatim. He further stated that there should be zero tolerance for eve-teasing.

Complaints can also be lodged directly to Special CP, Sudhir Yadav. Khanna emphasised that there should be co-ordination between the state government and Central agencies. He also announced a slew of steps as confidence building measures for women of the city.He suggested that every district should have a women distress centre.

Khanna alsorequested the citizens to give regular feedback on the police behavior and working of police stations.

Meanwhile, exclusive telephone lines have been installed at women helpdesk at each police statio, which work 24x7. On the last Friday of every month, women groups will meet Special CP at PHQ to take forward all implementable suggestions on crimes against women. There is also ‘Open House’ in LG’s office on the subject.

Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar also gave a presentation on women security.
