LoP meets LG over delimitation of wards

The Delhi government’s law department has already returned delimitation files of the municipal wards to the State Election Commission of Delhi, while Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Tuesday met the newly-appointed Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal over AAP government’s withholding the same.

According to the sources in the Delhi government, a few days back, the State Election Commission of NCT of Delhi has sent some delimitation files to the Delhi government’s law department for review. 

The forthcoming MCDs polls will be held in the early part of April this year. The boundaries of 272 municipal wards of the three civic bodies had been redefined in the national Capital. Former Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had given his nod for setting up of a committee for delimitation of 272 municipal wards in the city. 

According to the 2011 census data, the population at Kashmere Gate is just 15,288 while Hastsal municipal ward has a population of 1,45,715. 

Similarly, Holambi Kalan in North-west has 42,392 residents while Saadatpur Musalman has 11,019.

There are wards where the population has nearly doubled. Among the wards where the population has increased manifolds are Mukundpur, Burari, Bhalswa, Pooth Kalan, Bawana, Mundaka, Pratap Vihar, Kirari Suleman Nagar, Nangloi East, Hastsal, Mohan Garden, Nangli Sakravati, Karkaula, Matiala, Kapashera, Jaitpur and Madanpur Khadar. 

The last delimitation of 136 municipal wards was carried out in 2007.
