Loot for Love! Gang stole food supplements to attract girls

In a bid to impress young women with their branded attires and their built-up bodies, a group of six men in their early twenties had taken to robbing showrooms in south Delhi. The nefarious activities of the gang, comprising Rohit alias Chottu, Harsh, Adil, Sandeep and Suraj, came to light during a raid conducted by Delhi police on 3 April. Three cops were brutally beaten up in the process, although the policemen managed to nab five of the six accused.

‘The gang had robbed a shop-cum-godown of food supplements in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur area and had stolen items worth Rs 2.5 lakhs in March this year. The next day, when the owner reached his shop located near DLF Gate, he found that the outlet’s shutter was broken into and was lying in a dilapidated state next to the shop. He discovered that all the products were missing from the shop,’ a police official said.

When the complaint was lodged at the local police station, a team investigating the matter found that the gang robbery with a common modus operandi as some earlier robberies in the area. Probes revealed that the gang used to tie their car bumpers to the shutters of the targeted shop with iron chains. Police also discovered that they used to break open the shutter by accelerating their car and then get inside the shops to rob the products.

On 26 March, the gang went in their Honda City car and used the same modus operandi .’ They kept them in a rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Safdarjung area that has been recovered,’ said an official.

The investigation was carried out on the basis of a tip-off given by a gym-owner, who claimed that five young men had recently joined the gym, and two of whom tried selling him some food supplements at highly slashed rates.

On 3 April morning, five of the gang members came in a Zen car and when the cops quizzed them, three of them started beating the ASI Isslamudin with bricks lying around. Further, when the registration number of the car was searched, it appeared that the men had stolen it on Tuesday from RK Puram.  

‘In a pool of blood, I managed to nab two of the accused. One SI Rakesh and a constable Ali Gohar also received injuries,’ the ASI, who received grave head injuries, told Millennium Post. The ASI was rushed to the nearby hospital, where he received 25 stitches.

One of the six members of the gang, that was active in south Delhi for long and was wanted in around 12 cases of robbery, is still absconding. ‘Later on Wednesday evening, when another raid was made the other accused were nabbed with their Honda City car that was also stolen from R.K Puram,’ the official said.

During interrogation, they revealed their motive behind the robberies. They allegedly told the investigators that they wanted to pamper themselves for attracting young women, but due to poor financial condition they couldn’t manage a luxurious lifestyle!
