Lok Adalat resolves over 1,500 power theft cases
Over 1,500 power theft cases, involving Rs 5.86 crore, were resolved at a two-day Lok Adalat organised by power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited.

A BYPL official said a total of 1,636 cases were taken-up at the Lok Adalat held on Saturday and Sunday at Kakardooma court complex out of which 1,524 cases were resolved.

The Lok Adalat provided BYPL customers residing in East and Central Delhi a one-time opportunity for an amicable and on-the-spot settlement of their power theft cases.

‘The exercise was a win-win proposition for everybody. For the customers, it meant an opportunity to amicably settle their cases and an escape from a prolonged and an expensive legal process. For an over worked judiciary, it meant some burden off their courts,’ the BYPL official said.

The Lok Adalat was organised by the discom in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA).

The official said it was the last opportunity provided by the company to the consumers to settle their power theft cases and it will now initiate criminal proceedings against those who did not come for settling the cases. He said consumers whose cases have been ‘settled’ will have to clear their dues by February, else action will be initiated against them.
