Locals take away minor girl from Shyampukur police station

A section of local people allegedly took away a minor girl from the jurisdiction of police at Shyampukur late last night.

It is learnt that a 16-year-old girl went missing from her house at Ranaghat in Nadia a few days ago. Her family members had lodged a complaint with Ranaghat police station.

Policemen came to know that the girl was taken to Shyampukur after being kidnapped and she was kept in a slum.

In a bid to rescue the girl, policemen from Ranaghat police station contacted senior police officers of Shyampukur police station.

Last night a team comprising police officers from both the police stations had conducted raids in the slum. They found the girl there and rescued her. Police had also caught the youth who had kidnapped her.

The situation turned worse when the policemen took both the girl and the accused inside their car. A section of local people gheraoed the police’s car and abused the policemen. Soon the policemen were outnumbered by the local people as more people gathered in the area.

They forcefully took the girl and the accused youth out of the police’s car. They took the girl inside the slum and the accused had managed to flee.

There was police posting near the slum since last night, but police failed to rescue the girl.

Incidentally, the minor girl went to the police station on Monday afternoon.

Local people staged a demonstration outside the police station protesting against the move of the police. They claimed that the girl was not kidnapped. Instead she came to Shyampukur willfully along with the youth.
