Local youth beat up toto driver for refusing to pay subscription

A toto driver was beaten up by some local youth after he refused to pay subscriptions that they demanded from him.

The incident occurred at Titagarh in North 24-Parganas on Monday night. The victim, Bijoy Sau was returning home from the day’s work when he was stopped by some local youths who demanded a huge amount from him as subscription. When he expressed his inability to pay the amount, the accused attacked him with sticks a result of which the victim had received serious injuries on various parts of his body. The local people heard the victim scream and rushed to the spot for his rescue. He was taken to the BN Bose Hospital for treatment.

The accused have been identified as Samir Das, Prabir Das and Sunil Pal. Police said that the accused demanded the huge amount of money from the victim after he bought a Toto. The victim told the police that they demanded Rs 5,000 from him. He managed to hoard Rs 2,000 for them but they refused to take the money and were mounting pressure on him for the amount they had demanded for. The victim categorically told the accused he could not provide them the money as he earns a little out of plying his Toto in Titagarh area. This infuriated the accused so much that they had hatched a plan to take revenge. While returning home on Monday night, when Bijoy reached Lalkuthi area of Titagarh, the accused stopped him and started beating him up.

The accused had fled from the spot before the local people rushed to his rescue. On the basis of the complaint, police have started a probe into the incident. They are conducting raids to nab the culprits. The patient is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
