Linking younger voters with BJP a priority: Rai

Drawing younger generations of voters into the BJP’s support base will be a priority of the party’s newly-appointed Bihar unit president Nityanand Rai, who termed his new responsibility as a challenge in a state dominated by the rival JD(U)-RJD alliance.

“Getting more and more support from the younger generations of people for BJP will be a priority. I see the new responsibility as a challenge,” he said, soon after the party made the announcement.

The party’s organisation in the state is strong and competent and he will work to strengthen it further to take on the Nitish Kumar government, the 50-year-old first-time Lok Sabha MP said outside Parliament.

He said the victory of JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance in the state in the last assembly polls in 2015 was “unfortunate”. People, he said, are supporting BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership like never before following the demonetisation decision. “I am seeing a popular support for demonetisation which I have never witnessed for any decision of a government in the past,” he said.
