LG instructs police to deploy adequate staff at banks, ATMs

In order to lessen hardships being faced by the public, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday instructed Delhi Police to deploy adequate staff at banks and ATMs in the city.

The measure is to assist elderly, women, sick and other vulnerable people standing in queues.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday asked banks to hire retired employees so that they would help in relieving unprecedented rush during money transactions.  He also suggested additional terminals and counters to be opened for customer services. 

Since the announcement of demonetisation of high denomination notes, there were reports of deaths and panic ridden incidents across the country. A 48-year-old man died due to heart failure after waiting for long in a queue outside a bank in Delhi on Wednesday.
