LF rally likely to cause traffic snarls

There would be traffic congestion in the central business district as the Kolkata district committee of Left Front will organise a rally to protest following the sting operation.

Left Front chairman, Biman Bose on Wednesday said that besides the rally in the city, the party supporters will also be organising rallies in districts.

The rally in a weekday will cause inconvenience to hundreds of commuters. People destined to reach central business district from Howrah and Sealdah stations are expected to face trouble due to the rally.

Traffic in this part of the city may come to a standstill for one and a half hour and the after effects of rally will last for another two hours.

Meanwhile, many BJP supporters were arrested after they held a rally in Hazra and tried to break security barricades while marching towards Kalighat.

Supporters of the women wing of the party took part in the rally and the procession affected the traffic movement badly.

A large contingent of police officers was posted at the spot and they arrested the party supporters for breaking the law.

Opposition leaders in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Wednesday demanded statement from the Mayor on the sting operation. Pandemonium broke out in the council chamber after the Mayor refused to make a statement on the issue.

The Opposition leaders alleged that some Trinamool Congress councillors led by Khakon Biswas attacked them and tore off their shirts.
